Food Bank in need of help

Figurative alarm bells are going off at Keizer Community Food Bank (KCFB) as the need is outstripping supply. The food bank experienced an increase of clients by more than 60% in March versus a year ago. The number of clients has increased while the amount of food available to distribute has remained constant.

Be prepared for dog leash law

Rules and procedures took up most of the Monday, May 1, Keizer City Council meeting. 

After opening with two proclamations by Mayor Cathy Clark the council heard a report from the Traffic- Bikeways-Pedestrian Safety Committee, including issues with traffic speeds on Chemawa Road east of the Verda Lane round-about. A top issue for the traffic committee is a signalized crosswalk on Lockhaven Drive N. at McNary High School.

Local body shop nearing sapphire status 

Jackson’s Body Shop will mark its 65th year of business, serving the Mid-Willamette Valley region. A celebratory open house is scheduled for September. The festivities will start at 3 p.m. and take place at the shop, 3353 Silverton Rd NE in Salem. Appetizers and refreshments will be served. 

KeizerFEST art contest accepting entries May 3

A remnant of the Keizer Iris Festival is the selection of a formal iris for KeizerFEST, now held in August. 

An iris is selected 15 months before the festival to allow the Keizer Art Association (KAA) to hold a festival poster contest for artists. The official art is selected in May each year for the following year’s KeizerFEST.
