Diversity Committee discusses “downtown”

City Planner Shane Witham testified before the committee about the state-mandated walkable mixed-use areas in Keizer. Oregon uses the term climate friendly. Witham was joined by Josh Mahar, a director with Portland consultant firm of  Kearns and West.

New mixed-use areas topic of public meeting

The planning directors of Keizer and Salem joined with representatives of Oregon’s Land Conservation and Development Commission (LCDC) to host a public virtual meeting to explain new Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities (CFEC) rules and describe what walkable,mixed-use areas are.

Keizerite Elizabeth Grabotin named ICES local coordinator

Elizabeth Grabotin of Keizer has been named a local coordinator for International Cultural Exchange Services (ICES).

ICES is an international nonprofit youth exchange organization committed to educational study abroad programs. International Cultural Exchange Service, headquarted in West Virginia, promotes peace by advancing international awareness and cultural understanding to thousands of American families and exchange students from all over the world.

$9K in matching park grants available

At the Feb. 21 Keizer City Council meeting, Lisa Cejka of the Keizer Parks Advisory Board gave a report that including the reminder that there is $9,400 in grant money for parks projects.

Projects funded in part by the city’s Parks Matching Grant Program must be completed by June 30.

Rep. Mannix sponsors Willamette Bridge bill

State Rep. Kevin Mannix (R-Dist. 21) is sponsoring a bill—House Bill 2137,  to form a Willamette River Task force to bring together regional stakeholders to evaluate strategies for financing and constructing a bridge across the Willamette River, north of Keizer. 

A bridge not too far

Many television shows of the 1950s and ‘60s showed domestic bliss as friends and neighbors met weekly for a bridge game. It may seem anachronistic, many people play bridge today, including members of the Salem Bridge Club.
