Thatcher among DQed legislators

State Sen. Kim Thatcher, R-Keizer, can’t seek reelection in 2026 based on a decision by Secretary of State La Vonne Griffin-Valade announced Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Cucumber cool

People don’t generally think about cucumbers much unless they favor pickles, in all their forms. 

The Ostrom family does think about them; it is their livelihood. Brian and Carmen Ostrom along with three of four sons are in the middle of preparing their pickling cucumbers for market.

Century celebration

Geneva Moore lived during the time of cheap gas, no air conditioning, jet planes or pantyhose. She remembers when purchased bread came unsliced.

Now known by her married name—Geneva Josephine Powell—she was feted by family and friends on her 100th birthday at the west Salem home of her daughter, Kathy Baer.

Keizer wins big at scavenger hunt

About 500 registered teams engaged in the third annual Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, July 15. 

The Broyles family of Keizer found one of the four buttons hidden among each of the four adventures. Youngest son Knox proudly wore the button as they finished the hunt at Acorn Dentistry for Kids on Lancaster. Acorn was the presenting sponsor of the event.
