Changes coming to Keizer events in May

May will see changes to beloved Keizer events.

The Volunteer Firefighters Association has rescheduled its Mother’s Day Breakfast to the Sunday after, on May 19.

The KeizerFEST parade, traditionally held the weekend of the festival, has been rescheduled from August to Saturday, May 18.

The firefighters breakfast, renamed Keizer Fire Breakfast, will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 19. The change was made so that Fire District staff members, who are also mothers, can be celebrated on Mother’s Day, without having to prepare, cook and clean up.

The Keizer Fire Breakfast will have all the elements the Keizer community has grown accustomed to: all you can eat pancakes, eggs and sausage.

The price will be $9, $6 for seniors, veterans and children from 5 to 12 years old. Breakfast is free for children under 5.

The breakfast will be held at the fire hall at 661 Chemawa Rd. NE.

The Keizer Chamber of Commerce, organizers of KeizerFEST, have decided to reschedule the parade from August to May 18, to allow high school bands to participate.

This year’s parade theme is Shake, Rattle & Roll, a tie-in to the eruption of Washington Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980. Aside from the date change, the parade will look familiar, with floats, horses, bands and dignitaries.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at River Road N. and Lockhaven Drive, then proceed down River Road to end in south Keizer at Glynbrook Street.

Parade applications are available at keizerchamber.com
