Keizer teen to address council on youth, suicide awareness
McNary High School student Emerson Carella knows what he wants and goes for it. The junior, with a GPA of 4.54, will ask the Keizer City Council to rescind its recent vote to require city committee members be at least 18 years old and to share his concern about teen suicide at the June 5 meeting.
City Council handles 1,000 page packet in two hours
Keizer City Councilors were faced with a agenda packet for the May 15 meeting that totaled 1,077 pages—a record.
Despite the volume of the packet the meeting was completed in two hours.

Be prepared for dog leash law
Rules and procedures took up most of the Monday, May 1, Keizer City Council meeting.
After opening with two proclamations by Mayor Cathy Clark the council heard a report from the Traffic- Bikeways-Pedestrian Safety Committee, including issues with traffic speeds on Chemawa Road east of the Verda Lane round-about. A top issue for the traffic committee is a signalized crosswalk on Lockhaven Drive N. at McNary High School.

City Council OKs tribal building plan
The Keizer City Council moved forward with a tribal building plan, recognized students and conducted other council business at Monday’s meeting.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention month
Child abuse remains in the spotlight during the month of April in the region. In 2021 there were more than 10,000 reported victims of child abuse and neglect in Oregon and more than 1,000 in Marion County.
Throughout the month blue ribbons will be tied to a tree at Salem’s Riverfront Park, near the Rotary Pavillion. Each ribbon represents a victim of child abuse.

City Council moves forward with turf fields, plus another new sports facility coming to Keizer
On Monday, the City Council voted to apply funds to the turf field project at Keizer Rapids Park, and heard a presentation about the Lava Dome, a new $20M indoor sports complex to be built at the Keizer Little League fields.
