More candidates, incumbents file for election to Keizer city posts

Three more candidates have filed for seats on the Keizer City Council, including one incumbent.

•Dan Kohler, a Keizer undertaker and insurance salesman, filed for reelection to the council seat he won in 2022. He had recently said he was undecided about a second term. He was unopposed in his first race.

•Tammy Kunz, president of the Greater Northeast Keizer Neighborhood Association, has filed for the seat now held by Councilor Soraida Cross. Cross isn’t seeking another term. Kunz lost in a 2024 council race to Marlene Parsons.

•Joseph Grant, who lists himself as a retired principal and teacher, has filed for the seat now held by Councilor Lore Christopher. She said recently she was undecided about seeking a full term after being appointed to the seat in late 2024.

•Cathy Clark has filed for another term as mayor.

Candidates who aren’t incumbents have until Aug. 25 to file for the nonpartisan, unpaid positions. Christopher has until Aug. 18 to file for her seat again.

To run, candidates have to complete city forms and then qualify for the race by getting signatures of 120 registered Keizer voters.

The forms can be found on the city’s website under “city council elections.” City Recorder Melissa Bisset serves as the city’s election officer and can provide information. She can be reached at 503-856-3412 or [email protected].
