Classes might not have been in session, but boys and girls basketball were still putting in work over the holiday break.
McNary boys and girls teams each took part in holiday tournaments held Dec. 28 – 30, both winning two of three games.
The boys went over the pass for the Les Schwab Oregon Holiday Hoopfest, with games at Bend High School and Summit High School.
They opened the tournament with a 75-62 loss to OSAA-ranked No. 7 Roseburg High School, whoich would go on to win the three-day tournament.
The Celtics rebounded, and finished their trip with a pair of wins to close out Hoopfest.
First, they took down Bend with a 46-40 win on Dec. 29.
That was followed up with a 70-62 win against West Albany High School to end their tournament play.
Meanwhile, the Lady Celts were at the Pacific Office Automation Holiday Classic in Portland at McDaniel High School.
McNary opened with a 56-47 win against Franklin High School. KJ Custer led the way with 22 points, tying her career high. Avery Buss had 9 points and 6 assists in the win.
In their second game, McNary lost to Sunset High School 48-34. Bella Rodriguez led McNary scorers with 12 points, while Buss had 5 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
But they responded to the loss in style, taking down the host McDaniel Mountain Lions 40-9 in their final game of the week.
Aubri Cabral led all scorers with 10 points, Aubrey Adams had 8. Custer had 9 points and 3 steals, while Buss had 8 points, 6 assists and 3 steals.
Custer and Brookelynn Jackson were both named to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament team.
