Lady Celts take top spot to start weekend of wrestling

The Lady Celts opened the weekend for McNary wrestling with a big team win at the Maren Gingerich Tournament at Canby High School on Friday, Dec. 16.

They totalled 140 points, finishing 12 points ahead of second place Beaverton High School in the seven team tournament.

The first place finish is the first this season in a tournament for McNary.

Along with the team win came four individual first place finishes. At 100 pounds Kailynn Bollman-Lechner came in first, as did Adriann Durkin (105), Dayanara Salvador (110-115) and Ali Martinez (190).

This was Martinez’s second top finish this season after coming in first at the North Bend Coast Classic on Dec. 10.

The Lady Celts also had five other places on the day including second place finishes from Kaliyanei Hill (130-135) and Camryn Fineran (140-145).

The Maren Gingerich Tournament was just the start for McNary wrestling over the weekend. On Saturday, the boys were at the Thurston Tournament while the girls were at the Liberty High School Girls Invitational.

At Liberty, the Lady Celts finished ninth in the 34-school tournament.

Martinez again came away with the top spot at 190. Durkin (105) followed up her first place on Friday with a second place finish at Liberty, and Hill (130) finished third.

In Thurston, the boys placed fourth in their pool before going on to win their final matchup with North Eugene.

They were matched up with Mt. View High School in the first round, a 69-6 win for Mt. View.

In round two, they matched up with Culver High School, this time a 47-24 loss, before dropping the third round meet with Sweet Love High School 70-6.

They finished strong though. A 48-18 win over Springfield High School ended pool meets on a good note.

Then, in their final meet of the day, McNary defeated North Eugene 63-12.
