Police offer updates on Mayfield Place shooting

Keizer Police have provided the public with updates to the shooting death of Aaron Gage at a Mayfield Place residence Sept. 4.

Gage was shot and killed by the single owner and occupant of the home, and police now say it was an attempted burglary.  Keizer Police Lt. Trevor Wenning said once investigators identified the reason for the home invasion, that led to them uncovering two additional suspects who accompanied Gage in his attempted robbery.

On Oct. 4, investigators tracked down the two suspects and made arrests.  At this time, Wenning said these two individuals are being identified only as “a 29 year-old male and a 25 year-old female who both reside in Salem.”

Keizer Police say the three individuals targeted the home believing it was empty, and while the unidentified co-conspirators waited outside, Gage went in the residence at approximately 2 a.m. on Sept. 4. The noise woke the owner of the home, who retrieved his licensed firearm and shot Gage, killing him instantly.

The two unidentified suspects who fled the scene after the shooting have been charged with Burglary in the First Degree and are currently being held in custody at the Marion County Correctional Facility.

Wenning said any further questions about the case should be directed to the Marion County District Attorney’s office.
