Celtic cross country made the trip to Washington for the 61st annual Steve Maas Run-A-Ree at Hudson’s Bay High School, in Vancouver on Friday, Sept. 9.
McNary was one of 24 high schools from Oregon and Washington to participate, which also hosted Washington middle schools and a club team from each state.
The highest team finish for McNary was in the varsity boys 5,000 meters, an eighth place finish of 16 qualifying schools with a score of 246. Columbia River High School, from Washington, placed first with a score of 46.
In that race, sophomore Brayden Kaehler was the fastest Celtic runner, finishing at 18 minutes, 34 seconds, one minute and 40 seconds behind first place, junior Samuel Grice from Washougal High School.
The boys junior varsity squad placed fourth out of seven in their 5,000 meters race.
The highest individual finish from a McNary runner came in the junior varsity girls 3,600 meters race. Kalolaine Utaatu finished fifth with a time of 17:23. The Celtics finished fifth place out of seven schools.
The next time out will be when McNary hosts its first meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 21, against Sprague.
