Senators still ascending as ‘Canoes continue to crater

The Senators continued their late-season offensive explosion, sweeping four games from the Volcanoes — the scheduled three-game series plus a makeup game. 

The wins extend the Senators (22-19) win streak to eight games and they now sit in first place with two weeks to play in the regular season.

Blue Day back Aug. 20

After a two year break, Blue Day, the annual Fall sports kickoff at McNary High School, returns on Saturday, Aug. 20 with the slogan “Bring back the tradition.”

Blue Day runs from noon-5 p.m. and features varsity, junior varsity and freshman football and volleyball, boys and girls soccer, cross-country, Mid-Valley Soccer Club and McNary Youth Football.

Volcanoes back at .500 after 2-1 series split

After an extra innings loss on Friday, the Volcanoes came out on top of their three-game series with the Mavericks with wins on Saturday and Sunday. 

The two wins bring the Volcanoes to .500 at 18-18, one game behind the Mavericks (20-18) for first place. 

Fight night in Keizer

Future Olympic hopefuls and purveyors of the pugilistic sweet science filled the ring in Keizer on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Inside Toe 2 Toe Boxing Gym, the crowd filled the seats and available standing room, ready for 12 bouts. 24 boxers, ages 11-30, representing 14 clubs from Oregon, Washington and California competed in the USA Boxing sanctioned event.

Surging ‘Sinos sweep

Twice Mante Woods came up with the bases loaded in extra innings for the Campesinos this week. Twice he delivered walk-off wins. 

There had only been one walk-off win this season in the Mavericks League — the Volcanoes last week against the Senators. With their two in Week 12, the Campesinos finished off a three-game sweep and are now only .5 game behind the Mavericks for first place.

The Mavericks came into the week jostling with the Volcanoes at the top of the standings. 

After the 2-1 series win against the Senators, the Mavericks hold a .5 game lead. But it’s now the Campesinos who sit directly behind the Mavericks.
