Celtic basketball wins openers

McNary hoops opened the season with a pair of dominant road wins last week.

The boys started things out on Thursday, Dec. 1, with a 69-29 win at Reynolds High School of Troutdale. 

Sophomore Steven Adams led the way with 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting, 3-for-8 from 3. Adams also had 8 steals for the Celtics. 

Senior wing Brody Roth had a double-double for McNary, putting in 17 points to go with his 10 rebounds. 

Jabol Balos-Mesey was the only other member of the Celtics to score in double figures. Balos-Mesey had 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting, and no turnovers. 

As a team the Celtics were active defensively, totalling 19 steals, while dominating the offensive glass with 18 offensive rebounds.

Not to be outdone, the girls were in action on Friday at Century High School in Hillsboro, coming away with an 82-44 win. 

Leading all scorers was Ava Rubio with 23.

Avery Buss had 18 points, 6 assists and 4 steals, while Aubri Cabral put in 10 points with 2 blocks.

KJ Custer and Hailey Schwinof had 8 points and 5 steals each in the victory. 

Both boys and girls basketball is back in action on Tuesday. The boys are on the road at Aloha, while the girls host Aloha. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
