The Keizer Police Department is asking Keizer residents with surveillance video cameras to help fight crime in the city.
The new SCRAM (Surveillance Camera Registration And Mapping) program allows residents to register their home or business cameras with the department. In the event of a crime in the vicinity where the camera is in place, officers might then contact owners and request relevant footage.
“Our program is completely voluntary and is reserved for official use by the Keizer Police Department,” said Dorothy Diehl, KPD’s community outreach specialist.
Registration includes the camera owner’s name, address, contact phone numbers, details regarding when the camera is in operation and how long any footage is retained. Registration can be completed at bit.ly/kpdcam.
Once registered, officers will contact owners directly to request appropriate video surveillance footage. Any footage collected may be used as evidence during any stage of a criminal proceeding.
