The smell of charcoal-cooked hamburgers wafted over Keizer on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 5, as neighborhoods celebrated National Night Out.

The city of Keizer recently acquired another property in a triangle bounded by Northeast Lockhaven Drive, McLeod Lane and Chemawa Road.

A Keizer man is going to prison for trafficking in meth, fentanyl and more. Police found drugs, cash and guns in a search of his home last year.

Keizer artists will showcase their work at a free outdoor festival on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Englewood Park in Salem. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature a diverse range of artists.

A new Mexican restaurant is set to open at Keizer Station in October. Jorge Castro, the owner of the Margarita Factory restaurant chain, is redoing the building’s interior in preparation for his Latin American and cocktail eatery.

In a tense meeting, Cherriots leaders drew concerns over a proposed new payroll tax for Salem and Keizer employers that would raise money to expand bus service hours, build two new transit centers and buy new buses. The tax would not affect wages for employees at taxed businesses.

Keizer residents will find plenty to do this weekend, including an art show reception and a concert in the park, and just north of town the annual Steam-Up.
