Christy Perry

Superintendent Christy Perry retired from the Salem-Keizer School District for the shortest possible time at a Jan. 2 special Salem-Keizer School Board meeting.

Her retirement, which may have lasted less than a minute, ended with her rehiring in accordance with the new Oregon law that permits immediate rehiring in accordance with the provisions of the Public Employees Retirement System.

The rehiring is under the same employment contract Perry had when she retired, including the same terms, conditions, and duration. Her current contract extends through the 2020-21 school year, and the board has the option to extend it.

“We are fortunate to have a dedicated and proven leader like Christy Perry,” board chair Marty Heyen said. “I’m proud to represent a board that puts its support behind a superintendent who has our community’s best interests in mind while leading a $1.2 billion organization.”
