By LYNDON ZAITZ of the Keizertimes The McNary High School Celtic basketball teams won one and lost one against the Sprague Olympians in games held earliest this week. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the girls won 53-43 at home while the boys lost narrowly 58-59 on the Sprague court.
The Celtics travelled to face the No. 1 West Linn Lions on Friday. After upsets of No. 8 Lincoln and No. 9 South Salem, McNary’s run of upsets came to an end.
The McNary Celtics came away with the thrilling 6-5 upset win over South Salem in the second round of the OSAA State Championship playoffs on Wednesday.
McNary baseball opened up the OSAA 6A state playoffs with an upset win over No. 8 Lincoln on Monday.
The 5-4 win is the Celts’ fourth in a row, and sets up a second round meeting with CVC rival South Salem on Wednesday.
The Celtics may have lost to the Olys on Tuesday, but the season finally feels like it’s turning around for McNary.
The McNary Celtics lost their ninth straight on Tuesday against South Medford. But even with the struggles, the Celtics can still find some positives in the season.
The Celtics were unable to tame the Lions offense, as West Linn jumped out early, scoring in each of the first four innings — including five in the first — of the 12-1 win.
McNary travelled to Canby High School on Thursday, losing to the Cougars 12-6.
McNary baseball came back from an 8-0 deficit to win 15-10 on Tuesday at Sandy High School.
