UPDATE: McNary softball hosts first round of state playoffs on Memorial Day

UPDATE: 6 a.m. Tuesday – McNary and West Salem advance to the second round of state softball playoffs while McNary, South Salem and Sprague lost first-round baseball playoff games on Monday, May 25.

In softball, McNary beat Westview 15-3. The Celts host Jesuit (17-11 overall) on Wednesday, May 27. Jesuit advanced by beating Century 15-0. West Salem beat Grant 15-0 and hosts Tualatin while Sprague lost 15-5 to Sherwood.

In baseball, North Medford upset seventh-ranked south Salem 7-5, Sprague lost 6-3 to Sherwood and McNary lost to Clackamas 10-0.McNary’s softball team hosts the first round of state playoffs with a game scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday.

The fourth-ranked Celts take on the Westview Wildcats of Beaverton.

McNary ended regular season play as the Central Valley Conference champions, posting an 8-1 league record. They beat Dallas 7-6 on Thursday, May 21, to post a 22-4 season record.

The Wildcats finished their season 6-15.

If McNary wins on Monday, they advance to a second-round match on Wednesday, May 27. The Celts would play the winner of Monday’s Century-Jesuit game.

Seventh-ranked West Salem hosts Grant for a 5 p.m. Monday game while Sprague travels to take play second-ranked Sherwood at 3 p.m.

In baseball playoff action, the McNary baseball team drew a tough assignment for the first-round action. The Celts, with a 3-6 league record, travel to face top-ranked Clackamas, which posted 17-1 league record.

South Salem, ranked seventh, will host North Medford at 4 p.m. Monday at Gilmore Field and Sprague travels to face Sherwood for a 5 p.m. game.

The local weather forecast is a bit iffy for Monday. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 90% chance of showers, mainly after 11 a.m., with wind as gusts to 25 mph and a high temperature of 66.
