Gunfire in Keizer appears to be targeted attack, police say

Keizer police say a shooting in central Keizer on Monday, Oct. 6, appears to be “a targeted incident” that left one person with a minor injury and bullet damage to a vehicle and a food truck.

Police responded Monday afternoon to reports of shots in the parking lot of the Chemawa Deli & Market at 388 Chemawa Rd. N., about one block west of River Road. At the time, they found no victim and no suspects.

Later, detectives established that the gunfire was aimed at three men standing outside a vehicle and a woman sitting inside. Gunfire also hit the Dos Sabores food truck parked outside the Chemawa market.

Lt. Chris Nelson reported Tuesday that the agency’s Criminal Investigations Division continues to pursue leads.

“Detectives and supervisors across the division worked late into the night identifying victims and witnesses, canvassing neighborhoods, and collecting extensive video footage and electronic data,” he said in an email to Keizertimes. He said investigators were processing “multiple locations throughout the city for physical evidence” but did not elaborate.

He said police had “a substantial volume of digital and video evidence.”

“There is no evidence to indicate an ongoing threat to the general public,” he said.
