Reid will not seek another council seat, Saldivar will

After eight years of service, City Councilor Laura Reid has announced she will not seek a third-term on the Keizer City Council.

Simultaneously, former budget and planning commission member, Francisco Saldivar, has announced his candidacy for position #1.

Saldivar, an Air Force veteran, has a background in construction as well as teaching and currently serves as the Director of Apprenticeships at Chemeketa Community College.

Reid said of Saldivar that “he has served as a planning commissioner in Billings, MT and chaired the budget committee at Montana State University Billings.  Mr. Saldivar is a disabled Air Force Veteran who served in Iraqi Freedom.  His family has also been key participants in Keizer. His wife, Tammy, is the chair of the Traffic Safety, Bicycle, Pedestrian Committee, and his children have been in football, band and wrestling in addition to  participating in other activities at McNary.”

In a statement to the community about her time on the council, Reid said, “It has been an honor to serve Keizer in the capacity of councilor for these eight years, and it’s now time for me to move on to other forms of service.”

Having been a member of the Keizer community since 2001, she has gotten to know residents better through both her seat on the council but also as a teacher at McNary High School as well as with Keizer Homegrown Theatre and her church.

Reid described how her various community positions have given her a new lease and respect for the citizens of Keizer, Mayor Cathy Clark, her fellow councilors, city staff and to all those who helped elect her to her current seat.
