New disposal rates at three Marion County landfills and transfer stations took effect on Oct. 1.
The Brown’s Island Compost facility is now open for yard debris disposal with a minimum fee of $15 for up to two cubic yards of debris; each additional yard will be charged at $10 per cubic yard. Only yard debris—grass clippings, leaves, branches, vegetative material—will be accepted. Lumber, rocks, sod and dirt will not be accepted at the Brown’s Island Compost facility, which is located at Brown’s Island Demolition Landfill.
The Salem-Keizer Recycling and Transfer and the North Marion Recycling and Transfer stations have new rates for tires and some appliances. Tires—20 inch rim diameter or less will cost $5 for disposal. Small tires on the rim will cost $10 each. All appliances with refrigerants (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumiders, and the like) will cost $25 each for disposal.
