The Keizertimes won 19 awards, including nine first place finishes, at the Oregon Newspaper Publishers annual convention held last week at Salishan Resort near Lincoln City.
Graphic designer and production manager Logan Turbes took seven first place awards. He won for best graphics (“What’s in Keizer?”), merchandising section, multi-color ad, single house ad, advertising headline and best ad with one color and black. He shared best institutional ad honors with publisher Lyndon Zaitz.
Other first place awards were presented to the Keizertimes for best spot news coverage Joshua Manes shared with Joey Cappelletti for Marijuana bust breaks records, Driving under the influence and KFD audit sparks change; and best local column (Lyndon Zaitz).
Six second place awards were presented best special section (Health Wellness, KeizerFEST Guide and the Holiday Event and Gift Guide), best government coverage in the Better Newspaper Contest. In the Better Ad Ideas contest the paper won second place awards for best black and white ad, small space ad, special section cover and overall advertising.
The Keizertimes also won four third place awards for best editorial for Lyndon Zaitz (Moving KeizerFEST, Rally can’t be stopped and Can we please get a library?), sports story (Freshman phenom Zepeda nets hat trick), sports photo and house ad.
