Police Scanner – May 24 – May 31

A transient was arrested by Keizer police on Tuesday, May 26, after a struggle when officers attempted to take him into custody for shoplifting.

At about 11 p.m., employees at the Keizer Safeway reported that a man stole $67 in merchandise, wouldn’t leave the store property, and threw a soda can at one worker.

When officers approached the suspect, “he actively resisted arrest, resulting in a prolonged physical struggle that required multiple officers to gain control and safely apply restraints,” according to Lt. Chris Nelson of the Keizer Police Department.

Joel T. Thompson, 44, was arrested for theft, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.

Earlier that day, police responded to reports of a man “approaching people in the area while carrying metal objects and acting erratically” in the area of North River Road and Lockhaven Drive.
