FBI seeks help in Keizer arson case

The FBI’s Portland office is seeking the public’s help to identify arsonists at three reproductive health centers, one each in Keizer, Gresham and Portland,.

Keizer police received 911 calls the evening of May 8, 2022, reporting someone threw several Molotov cocktails at the Oregon Right to Life building at 4335 River Rd. N. From nearby security footage, investigators determined the suspect took something from the trunk of a vehicle and walked toward the building. A glow seen on the footage was found to be flames from a Molotov cocktail. The individual was seen running back to the vehicle, believed to be a white sedan, possibly a 2017 or 2018 Hyundai Elantra.

These acts, L.t Trevor Wenning of the Keizer Police Department said, violate the federal statute referring to Destruction by Means of a Fire or Explosive, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison, and potentially a federal statute referring to Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances.

Anyone who has information on these incidents is asked to call 1-800-FBI (1-800-225-5324), contact the nearest Federal Bureau of Investigation office, or submit a top online at tips.fbi.gov. Anyone doing so may remain anonymous.

The FBI is offering rewards up to $25,000 for information leading to identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible for these crimes.

The FBI can investigate the incidents as potential acts of domestic violent extremism, Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act violations or violent crime matters.
