Cherry Blossoms place second at Nationals

The Cherry Blossoms — Cherry City Roller Derby’s junior team — came home with silver from the Junior Roller Derby Association Championship on Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July 31.

The second place finish in the open division came in the Cherry Blossoms first trip to the JRDA Championships. The open division consisted of four teams. There were the Cherry Blossoms, of course, Sodak Attack from Sioux Falls, Iowa, the Philly Roller Derby Juniors and the Tampa Bay Junior Derby.

On Saturday, the Cherry Blossoms defeated the Tampa Bay Junior Derby team 189-142, while Philly dominated Sodak Attack 341-82.

In Sunday’s championship, the Cherry Blossoms went down to Philly 199-90.

Two Cherry Blossoms players received special honors. Little Miss Savage and Thunder Breeze won the female best jammer and blocker awards respectively.
