Body paint, short shorts and a flashing sack of some sorts were on the track as the Cherry City Roller Derby finished off its twelfth season with the annual Vegas Rules event.
More than 200 fans packed into the Mad House on Madison Ave. in Salem for the sell out show on Saturday, June 25.
While the rules for the match were the same as always, there’s definitely some things different about the end of the season tradition.
For starters, it’s only for fans 18 and up, with no fan photography allowed — what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas afterall, right?
Skaters go by different, slightly edgier and not-so-kid-friendly monikers like Cervix-a-lot, Brookback Mountain and Tess Tickles.
The two teams, Hentai Heroes and The Devil’s Lettuce, were mashups of the three existing CCRD teams the 8-Wheel Assassins, the Boneyard Brawlers and the Renegades, with each team sending up to 10 skaters.
In the end, The Devil’s Lettuce came away with the win 192-148.
But just because the season is over doesn’t mean there’s no more roller derby at the Mad House for the year.
The juniors team the Cherry Blossoms is hosting a tournament on July 9-10 with teams coming from as far as Canada to play.
The tournament is the last preparation the Cherry Blossoms will have before the Junior Roller Derby Association Championships in Arizona on July 30-31.
The Cherry Blossoms are currently holding a GoFundMe to raise funds for travel to the championships.
