OBITUARY

Richard Owen Klug September 29, 1939 – March 2, 2021

Richard Klug, 81, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away at home on March 2, 2021.

Richard was born Sept. 29, 1939 in Yankton, S.D., to Owen and Else (Jensen) Klug. He graduated from South Salem High School in 1958. Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve on his 17th birthday and served until his honorable discharge in 1967. 

Richard married Joyce Irwin in Salem in Aug. 1960. They had four sons, Trent, Keith, Scott, and Mark. He had a 24-year career with Boise Cascade, eventually retiring from the company in 1985. Richard became involved for many years in the Salem-Keizer sports community coaching Boys Club football and Keizer Senior League baseball. Richard and Joyce divorced in July 1985. 

Richard met Tommie Jenyns in 1991 and were married in October 1992. Richard gained two step-children, David and Michelle. He had his own remodeling and roofing business in Salem for almost 15 years. After spending several years in Lebanon, Richard and Tommie settled in Mesa, Ariz. 

Richard truly loved his wife, and was devoted to his family, coaching and being involved with the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Gloria and Deborah, son Mark.

He is survived by his wife Tommie; his brother Kirk (Rhonda), his sons Trent (Shannon) of Silverton; Keith (Diane) of Huber Heights, Ohio; Scott (Christi) of Keizer, David of Los Angeles, Michelle of Mesa, Ariz., and five grandchildren.
