Keizer uses a deep well water that can cause an odor similar to rotten eggs or sulfur. Even though the water is safe to drink, there are ways you can remove the smell from the tap.
The primary reason for odor is the type of hoses used under sinks, behind toilets and behind refrigerators. The culprits are typically clear and braided, opaque, or has stainless webbing and they are commonly used in most new homes. The mineral water from the well in Keizer reacts to these tubes and causes a bad smell. Particularly when the water sits in these tubes for a long period of time, it will become odorous.
Running the water for a short bit of time will usually clear up the problem, but Keizer Public Works recommends replacing hoses with ones made of copper or chrome to fix the problem permanently.
