A "tired" ball park in Keizer is getting attention from new managers as youth season is close to starting. The Keizer Little League Park also will host tournaments through the summer.

Ahead of the new season, Keizer Little League Park's new management is addressing burnt out field lights and maintenance issues.

In a council work session Monday, Jan. 12, company officials laid out plans for a more robust Keizer Little League Park operation and fielded questions from city councilors.

The Keizer City Council initially favored postponing a decision, but after hearing testimony from local youth sports nonprofits and company leaders voted 6-1 to approve new management for the sports complex at Keizer Little League Park.

The Keizer Little League Park could become a regional draw for sports fans and more under a proposal from a Florida company. The Keizer City Council decided Monday to push ahead with a contract with the company to replace a local nonprofit.

Following a series of complaints about the Keizer Little League Park's current management, the city released a call for new management on Aug. 4.

For the Love of the Game, the not-for-profit group that maintains Keizer Little League Park, is looking for contributions to be able to make the improvements needed prior to the start of baseball and softball in spring 2023.

The mayor and four councilors were joined by two councilors-elect to discuss short- and long-terms goals for the Keizer City Council at a work session Monday, Dec. 12.
