Saturday bike skills event 

Despite the rain, a city committee, neighborhood association, vendors, several Keizer emergency services and Keizer elementary faculty came together on a wet Saturday morning, May 4, at Keizer Elementary School for a bike skills and resources event.

School budget cuts unveiled 

The Salem Keizer Public School (SKPS) district has released its upcoming budget for the 2024-25 school year, including information for around $70 million in budget cuts across all funding. 

According to the 176-page report, this new, reduced budget reflects the district’s “attempt to hold the financial, educational and cultural health of the system in balance.”

Sen. Merkley speaks at Chemeketa 

Senator Jeff Merkley (OR-D) spoke at Chemeketa Community College’s Salem campus on April 26 about a series of legislation he secured funding for including more than 475 community-initiated projects throughout the state as well as introducing a strengthened version of his End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act. 

A life lost too soon

The deceased man found behind the Keizer Cultural Center has been identified as Keizer resident, Michael Paul Bush. 

Bush’s death was ruled a suicide by the Marion County Chief legal medical investigator. 

He was 47 at the time of his death.

Oregon Republicans are going to the border

A group of Oregon Republicans are heading to Arizona to “witness with their own eyes the devastation Biden’s immigration policies have had,” according to a press  release from Ashley Kuenzi, the communication director for the Oregon Republican caucus.
