McNary’s Olivo repeats as state javelin champ

McNary’s Derek Olivo brought home state titles in the javelin and discus, leading the Celtic boys team to a fifth-place finish in state competition in Eugene that ended Saturday, May 30.

Olivo won the javelin with a throw of 209-foot-4. He won the state title last year as well.

His brother Gary took fifth in the javelin.

The 4×400 relay team of Yosef Picazo, Adam Ellis, Mason Bowlby and Joey Elston finished second in a time of 3:19.72. That was one second behind the winning team from Tualatin.

In district competition, the McNary team posted the second-best time in Oregon at 43:16.82.

Picazo took fourth in the 800-meter race. He ran a personal best time of 1:53.57.

The McNary girls team didn’t have any top five finishers.
