Pentacle Theatre to host open musical auditions

Salem’s Pentacle Theatre is seeking actors, singers and dancers for a summer musical.

Auditions for “Catch Me If You Can” will be held from 1 p.m to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. It will take place in the theater’s downtown Salem rehearsal studio at 197 Liberty St. S.E.

The theatre is seeking 20 to 30 cast members for the show, which the press release describes as “fairly complex, and character driven, rumored to be based on a true story.”

Set in the late 1960s and based on the movie, the musical follows teenager Frank Abagnale Jr. as he runs away from home and lives “the high life” by successfully posing as a pilot, doctor and lawyer. Frank’s deceptions are noticed by FBI agent Carl Hanratty, who pursues Frank across the country.

Those auditioning are expected to prepare 32 bars or one minute of a Broadway song in the style of the show. The audition will be divided into vocal and dance portions, with the latter focused on “the jazz, swing burlesque styles of the ‘60s.”More details on the show and auditions can be found on the theater’s website. Questions can be emailed to director Wendy Boyack at [email protected].
