The Keizer Police Department is hosting a summer-ending barbecue Saturday, Aug. 30, to help students get ready for the start of school.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chalmers Jones Park at the Keizer Event Center on Northeast Chemawa Road.
The barbecue replaces the usual Blast Camp put on by the Keizer agency.
A variety of organizations will have booths and a police SWAT rig will be on scene. Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be served and there will be face painting, bracelet making and other activities.
The agency also will be giving out basic school supplies such as pencils and notebooks.
“Everybody’s welcome,” said Lt. Trevor Wenning.
