Games and displays set for Public Works Day at Keizer park

Big equipment demonstrations, trivia contests and temporary tattoos are all on the agenda for the city’s annual Public Works Day scheduled for Wednesday, June 18.

The free event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Keizer Rapids Park. A pizza vendor will be serving.

“It is our hope to raise awareness and educate our residents about what it is that public works and local businesses do to serve the community,” according to a city press release.

Among the activities planned:
• A trivia wheel sharing information about Keizer parks.

• Demonstrations of how large equipment works by Keizer Public Works.

•Exhibits on “how our Water Division repairs waterlines and protects wells protection and groundwater from pollution. Learn how to shut off your water and watch a backflow demonstration,” according to the city’s program.

•Attendees can “play your way to protecting stormwater by learning how we are all connected by water,” the program said.

“Play a game and learn how to save money on your utility bill,” according to the city promotion.

Represented at booths for the Public Works Day are entities including Salem Environmental Education, Keizer Fire District, Cherriots, city Parks and Facilities Division, city Water Division, city Stormwater Division, city Environmental Division, PGE, Salem Electric, Keizer CERT, Loren’s Sanitation, Valley Recycling and Disposal, Mid-Valley Haulers Association, Highway Fuel and AKS Engineering.
