This year’s Salem-Keizer Beacon Awards will have a fair amount of McNary blue representation as 10 Celtic athletes earned 11 nominations for next Saturday’s awards — nearly doubling last year’s six nominations.
For the first time in school history McNary has three state champions in wrestling. Ali Martinez, Josh Friesen and Max Blanco brought home state titles from the OSAA wrestling state championships.
There will be 11 McNary grapplers taking part in the OSAA State Championships beginning Thursday, with 10 boys and one girl qualifying.
McNary hosted North Salem in a dual-meet on Wednesday, the Celtics coming away with a 45-36 win.
McNary wrestling had three members finish in first place at the North Bend Coast Classics over the weekend. Max Blanco, Josh Friesen and Ali Martinez all came away with wins in their individual weight classes.
McNary girls and boys wrestling finished fourth and fifth respectively at the Perry Burlison Invitational over the weekend.
