The Salem Keizer Public School (SKPS) district has released its upcoming budget for the 2024-25 school year, including information for around $70 million in budget cuts across all funding.
According to the 176-page report, this new, reduced budget reflects the district’s “attempt to hold the financial, educational and cultural health of the system in balance.”
The Salem-Keizer School District and Salem-Keizer teachers unions have reached an impasse in negotiations as of yesterday, Feb. 15.
A letter signed by 13 current and former community leaders supporting Salem-Keizer Public Schools and urging union members to take the current financial issues the district is facing into consideration during bargaining was sent to the school board, SKPS, the Salem-Keizer Educators Association, the Association of Salem Keizer Education Support Professionals and media outlets on Tuesday.
In the last two weeks, Salem- Keizer Public Schools (SKPS) has made the rounds holding listening sessions at four of the six high schools. Monday night was Keizer and McNary High School’s turn.
