Here’s the latest from Keizertimes

Good morning.

Keizer, clearly, is a giving community.

After Keizertimes launched “Let’s Feed Keizer,” the Keizer Community Food Bank reported a surge of donations. That all goes to help feed kids, seniors and families in our community.

There will be plenty of opportunities to help in the days leading up to the holidays.

One of those comes tomorrow. The leadership students at Whiteaker Middle School will be at the Keizer Safeway Saturday, collecting donations of food. This is the 12th year of “Stuff the Bus” and the goal is to get enough turkey, stuffing and more to feed 200 families. Swing by and help load that bus.

And while you’re out, head on over to McNary. The McNary Athletic Booster Club is hosting its annual holiday bazaar. That event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a great way to round up gifts (and maybe a treat or two for yourself).

Speaking of the holidays, Keizertimes published its annual Holiday Guide, part of the print newspaper and available around town and at our office. We have stories about all the holiday traditions in Keizer, a full schedule of events and everything you need to join in the fun in the coming weeks.

I want to pause a moment to introduce you to Krista Kroiss, our new general assignment reporter. She replaces Riley Ellis, who decided journalism wasn’t for him.

Krista graduated from the University of Oregon. She worked on the Daily Emerald, the student-run newspaper. She was a Snowden intern. That’s a prestigious journalism internship I’ve been involved with for years. She spent her internship in Pendleton at the East Oregonian.

More recently, she worked for the Wilsonville Spokesman. Alas, she was a casualty of down sizing all too common in the news business these days. She is focused for now on covering schools, the Keizer Fire District and business. We’re excited to have her on our team, helping deliver news for Keizer you can’t get anywhere else.

And here’s some of that news from recent days…..
