Keizer will share a bit of its history as Oregon celebrates statehood at the Capitol on Saturday, Feb. 14.
The event, “Oregon’s Anniversary of Statehood,” runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., hosted by the Oregon State Capitol Foundation.
The Keizer Heritage Museum has been invited to participate and will do so with exhibits, demonstrations and more.
Oregon became a state 167 years ago.
The Keizer exhibit will include a fur discovery station, the Oregon Trail game, video of moving the 1916 schoolhouse to its current location adjacent to the Keizer Event Center and more.
“Guests can hear the Oregon Trail journey of Thomas Dove Keizur, listen to memories from former students of the historic Keizer School, explore animal furs at the fur discovery station and try on our beaver mittens,” according to a museum statement.
The museum also will offer prizes to those who correctly answer questions from a 1916 test for eighth graders.
The day’s events open at 10 a.m. with an old-time fiddler’s performance in the rotunda. Free cupcakes will be handed out at 11 a.m. Square dancers perform in the rotunda at 1 p.m.
