McNary wrestlers prepare for regional meets as dual season ends

With the regular season behind them, McNary’s wrestlers now focus on district competition.

For the girls, the district meet opens Friday, Feb. 13, at West Salem High School. The top four finishers in each weight class qualify for the state meet.

For the boys, the district meet is Friday, Feb. 20, at West Salem. The top three finishers in each class go to state.

On Thursday, Feb. 5, the Celts went into a dual meet against South Salem shorthanded by illness.

In girls competition, Marlina Martinez won with a first-round pin and Chayo Palomo earned her 100th career victory.

In boys competition, Lucas Boersma, Izaak Hendrix and Cody Kudna earned wins.

On Saturday, Feb. 7, the boys team competed in the Jack Berger Invitational in Silverton.

Luis Martinez took first at 113 pounds, defeating a returning state finalist in the semi-finals.

Dillon Shepherd took second at 144 pounds and Jordan Gesik was third.
