Here’s the latest from Keizertimes

Good morning.

More than 7,000 people in Keizer count on federal help to feed themselves and their families.

But the politics of Washington, D.C., mean they won’t get that help in the next few days.

That means less money for groceries to feed children, less money for those who are seniors or disabled. State numbers show many of the adults getting help already are working.

Here in Keizer, those needing help turn to the Keizer Community Food Bank.

The food bank itself now needs help to face the heavy demand.

You can help.

Make a cash donation online or give food that isn’t perishable. Donation barrels are set up at Uptown Music, Bi-Mart, Columbia Bank, Copper Creek Mercantile, Willamette Valley Bank, Key Bank, Keizer Elks Lodge, and the Keizer Fire District.

Reporter Riley Ellis was at the local food bank on Thursday and you can read his report on our website late this morning.

We’ll keep you posted on fast-changing circumstances but, for now, let’s help ensure no one goes to bed hungry.

If you know of local efforts to feed Keizer, please send me an email at [email protected].

In other news, McNary’s boys soccer team won the Central Valley Conference title and heads into the state playoffs on Saturday. The Celts host Willamette for a match scheduled for 6 p.m.

And McNary is sending several runners to the state cross country championships. We’ll have a story soon detailing who is going. The state meet is Saturday, Nov. 8, at Lane Community College in Eugene.

In football, the Celts lost on Thursday to Aloha 33-21. That leaves McNary 2-7 for the season.

Reach out to me directly at [email protected] if you have story ideas, questions or suggestions. Thanks for reading Keizertimes!
