Keizer police on Monday, Oct. 20, arrested a rural Marion County man in connection with a string of burglaries in two areas of Keizer in recent days. The accused burglar had been released from jail two weeks earlier on charges in a Salem theft case.
Christopher R. Gibson, 27, of Gates, was accused of four counts of first-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief, two counts each of first-degree theft and felon in possession of a firearm and one count each of second-degree criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
“Detectives believe he may be connected to additional burglary cases in the area and continue to review evidence and surveillance footage,” according to a statement from Lt. Chris Nelson of the Keizer Police Department.
Police ask anyone with information to contact detectives at 503-390-3713.
Starting on Wednesday, Oct. 15, police responded to three burglaries or attempted break-ins reported in west Keizer and in north Keizer.
The string started when a 2023 Mercedes-Benz E450, several guns, and over 1,0000 rounds of ammunition were stolen from a house in the 3800 block of North Rivercrest Drive on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
The next day, a burglary in the 5500 block of North Windsor Road was discovered when a homeowner found a broken window in the front door. The homeowner also found signs of pilfering, including doors and drawers in the home. Additionally, the owner reported missing property but police released no details.
The burglar, seen on surveillance footage from nearby houses, was observed carrying a box from the owner’s home to a dark blue vehicle.
On Friday, Oct. 17, officers responded to a home in the 7100 block of Northeast Lawnridge Street where a man was recorded throwing a rock through the window of a front door. Surveillance footage captured the act at 4:24 a.m. The burglar left without getting into the home, police said.
On Sunday, Oct. 19, police responded to a potential burglary in progress in the 500 block of North Fall Creek Drive in west Keizer. An absent homeowner reported the incident that was captured on a home security system.
The burglar was recorded throwing a rock through a large window before fleeing in a black two-door car.
On Sunday, Oct. 19, police responded to a burglary in the 3800 block of North Rivercrest Drive. The homeowner said that the burglar had shattered a window and entered the home sometime during the night.
Marion County Circuit Court records show that Gibson pleaded guilty in 2023 to second-degree criminal mischief for attempting to menace a Salem woman.
Last July, he was arrested for the theft of a motorcycle from a Salem home. A grand jury on Oct. 2 charged Gibson with the theft of two motorcycles and second-degree criminal mischief. He was ordered released from custody on Oct. 7 and was scheduled to enter a plea on Oct. 30.
He is now being held in the Marion County Jail with no bail set on the new charges, jail records showed on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
