A Keizer resident is out $6,000 from a telephone scam involving a fake FBI investigation, Keizer police reported.

At about 1 p.m. Thursday, June 11, someone identifying themselves as “Stacy” from the FBI called the resident to say they were under federal investigation.

The caller told the victim to withdraw $6,000 and place it into a bitcoin machine in northeast Salem, which the victim did. When the victim was instructed to withdraw another $4,000, bank officials detected the unusual withdrawal and alerted the victim to the scam, police reported.

• In other police activity on June 11, a mother called police to report her 11-year-old son was attacked earlier in the day at the school by a 14-year-old. 

“The victim juvenile was slapped, taken to the ground and then choked; he is afraid of being attacked again. The incident happened at Claggett Creek Middle School and school authorities are aware,” according to Lt. Trevor Wenning of the Keizer Police Department.

The agency also announced that video surveillance cameras have been installed at Ben Miller Park, which is next to Claggett Creek Middle School. 

“Officers have responded to this park to investigate fights and other illegal activity, and the cameras are expected to assist in investigations and deter criminal activity,” according to Wenning.

Eight city parks now have such cameras.
