McNary Kloset seeks summer, athletic clothes

Preparing for spring and summer weather, McNary High School is collecting clothing donations for its resource closet.

The McNary Kloset Drive will run through Friday, May 22. Claudia Garcia-Rios, community school outreach coordinator, said the program seeks warm-weather clothing such as short-sleeve shirts, T-shirts and shorts to provide students for spring and summer use.

The school also needs athletic clothing for students to use in PE and spring sports. According to a flyer advertising the drive, the school welcomes male and female clothing of any size. The items should be new or gently used.

Clothes can be dropped off at the McNary High School office, with a note that they are for the closet.

The closet accepts donations year-round, but the school is holding the drive to build clothing inventory for the warm weather. Garcia-Rios said the school last held a clothing drive two or three years ago, and it had “a really good turnout.”

Garcia-Rios facilitates the resource closet, which is one of many across Keizer schools run through the Keizer Community Foundation’s Keizer Kloset program. The closet provides school supplies, hygiene products, clothes and more for students.

Garcia-Rios said students use the closet daily.
