Keizer police are investigating what appears to be an attempt to steal a bank ATM.
Thieves used a chain and a commercial van to try to dislodge the ATM at Chase Bank, 5560 Inland Shores Way N.
Police were alerted at about 3 a.m. Sunday, July 20, but the truck was gone by the time officers arrived.
“Officers determined the ATM sustained extensive damage estimated in the thousands of dollars,” according to Lt. Trevor Wenning of the Keizer Police Department.
The would-be thieves were driving an older model Ford E-250, Wenning said.
• In other recent police activity, officers stopped a vehicle just after 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Home Depot on Northeast Cherry Avenue.
The woman driving the car fought officers as they attempted to arrest her.
Beth M. Woodruff, 45, of Silverton, was arrested for DUII, resisting arrest and driving with a criminally suspended driver’s license.
•Earlier that day, at 1:50 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on River Road near North Sunset Avenue for using illegal lighting. Maximo Rosales-Chavez, 43, of Keizer, was arrested for DUII and on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a 2008 DUII charge.
•A Keizer woman reported her vehicle stolen after renting it out on Saturday, Aug. 16, through Turo, which describes itself as “the largest car sharing marketplace.” Other references online describe Turo as the “AirBnB of cars.”
The rental was for a day but the vehicle was later recovered in Reno, Nevada, police said.
