Capitals split 2 on Cali roadtrip

The Capitals’ recent offensive struggles took the trip to California with them, though they managed to come away with one win over the weekend.

Salem’s road trip opened at Bakersfield on Saturday, May 14, with a low scoring 81-77 win, the lowest scoring game in the West division this season.

Even with the positive result in the win column, the Capitals had their struggles. They lost the turnover battle 15-5, and show less than 28% from three.

Vincent Boumann led the Capitals with 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, 7-for-16 from the free throw line. He also grabbed 8 rebounds.

Kevin Johnson Jr. contributed 21 points in the win, going 8-for-13 from the field and 2-for-3 from three.

It was a back-and-forth game for most of the night. In the third quarter, the Capitals took a nine-point lead, the largest of the game.

The Magic stormed back with a 14-2 run to take a 66-63 lead two minutes later.

The Salem defense stymied Bakersfield to finish the game, allowing only one point in the final 5:30 of the game.

Things didn’t go so well the next night for the Capitals when they faced the first place Sea-Kings, losing 128-90.
