Local Vet establishing national parking program

John Rizzo (right) stands alongside the Veterans parking only sign at The Home Depot in Salem.

John Rizzo, a Keizer resident, has taken his idea of reserving parking spaces for military veterans nationwide and has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $5,000 for Veterans Parking.

Veteran’s Parking is a 501(c)-3 non-profit organization that aims to provide a parking space for those who have served their country. Parking spaces are provided by property owners, primarily at commercial locations, on a voluntary basis.

Rizzo says the program is nation-wide, aided by Lowe’s and Home Depot, which are both placing Veteran’s Parking signs at all their retail locations across the country, at their expense.

No public funds or taxes are used to fund the parking spaces for veterans.
