Food collection set for KNOW baskets

The Keizer Network of Women (KNOW) will hold a drive-through food drive at Gubser Elementary School this weekend, 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, to benefit the group’s annual Giving Basket program.

The food drive will be conducted with all COVID safety protocols in place including masks, social distancing and contactless collection.

In year’s past the Giving Basket program has received food donations from the first weekend’s collection at the Miracle of Christmas Lights display in the Gubser neighbor. Due to COVID, this year the organizers of the light display will be accepting financial donations—via a QR code prominently displayed— for the Marion Polk Food Share only.

More than 180 local families with over 500 children in need will receive food and gift baskets this year from KNOW, a Keizer Chamber of Commerce organization.

Members of the Keizer City Council, Chamber board directors, members of the Greater Gubser Neighborhood Association and Rotary Club of Keizer members will help collect food on Friday, Dec. 4. Members of Salem Tundra will collect on Saturday, Dec. 5. On Sunday, Dec. 6, members of Salem Jeepers club will be on duty.

The food collection site at Gubser Elementary School, at 6610 14th Ave. NE, is near the end of the Miracle of Christmas Lights display.
