Pie title awarded in north Keizer

Ten bakers entered the arena, but it came down to one point and a second round of tasting to crown a champ.

Willamette Valley Lutheran Retirement Community residents turned out in droves to watch its first ever baking competition Friday, Feb. 21.

Jan Bliss’ strawberry-cream cheese pie beat out Debbie Gurule’s lemon meringue angel pie with a score of 104-103 points.

Other entries included: Darlene Warrick’s strawberry-rhubarb, Missy Davis’ sweet potato, Vicki Stiers’ caramel apple, Ann Riley’s pumpkin cups, Lorna Jensen’s chocolate mousse, Mandy Krause’s blueberry, Sandy Green’s cherry chocolate, and Dave Schlapp’s peach.
