Keizer teen fatally shot in Salem park

Salem Police Department announced that a 16-year-old McNary High School student was the victim of a fatal shooting in Salem’s Englewood Park on Aug. 4.

Salem police officers responded to the park at 12:48 a .m. where the victim, Ishaq Saleem, was found. He later died of his wounds at a local hospital.

The department is not releasing any further information at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Saleem’s killing was one of three gun-related incidents that took place in the Salem area between Aug. 4 and Aug. 8.

Salem Police Chief Jerry Moore issued a statement Monday, Aug. 12, addressing the incidents and rumors that popped up in their wake.

“It is human nature to assume these incidents may be connected. That may in fact be the case, but at this time it is simply speculation and our investigation will determine whether that is accurate. Regardless, we are actively working all of these cases and are working closely with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, and parole and probation agencies,” Moore wrote. “We release details as soon as possible once we have verified them, which may take hours or even days. Many times, details are actually clues, which if revealed publicly, can hamper the investigation.”

Those with information about the case can call the Salem Police Department non-emergency line at 503-588-6156.
