Here’s the latest from Keizertimes

Good morning.

Going up?

The Keizer City Council is considering boosting the monthly fee on your utility bill to pay for police on Monday, May 4. That could mean a significant hike in what business properties pay.

The council also will consider asking voters about the idea. The councilors can impose the increase without direct taxpayer consent. But several councilors have promised they would get a city vote on the matter before raising the fee, and that likely will be settled on Monday.

City officials say the extra money is needed to cover the costs of the Keizer Police Department, as we have reported previously.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and is open to the public.

You don’t have to wait until a ballot vote to have your say.

•Submit a letter to the council before the meeting at city hall or by email to City Recorder Melissa Bisset ([email protected]). •Speak to the councilors during the public comment period near the start of the meeting.

Now, here’s what we’ve been reporting on in recent days at Keizertimes.
