The smell of charcoal-cooked hamburgers wafted over Keizer on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 5, as neighborhoods celebrated National Night Out.

A new Mexican restaurant is set to open at Keizer Station in October. Jorge Castro, the owner of the Margarita Factory restaurant chain, is redoing the building’s interior in preparation for his Latin American and cocktail eatery.

A free concert series, put on by Valor Mentoring, is returning to Keizer Rapids Park this summer with the next show on Saturday, July 26.

The Powerland Heritage Park will host its annual showcase of antique cars, imported trolleys and steam-powered logging machines over two weekends, July 26-27 and Aug. 2-3.

Around 30 volunteers helped restore the Big Toy Playground on Saturday, July 19, under the leadership of City Councilor Marlene Parsons.

McNary High School has resurrected its bowling team with two new coaches who will lead the season come September. Denny Eubank, 44, will lead the effort, assisted by Kyle Read, 36. The two share high hopes for the team’s future.
